The Build Your House (BYH) Exhibition 2024, inaugurated under the patronage of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), highlights the vital role of the construction sector in supporting Qatar's significant development strides in line with Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030, said Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani.
The opening ceremony, held in the QNCC Exhibition Halls, brought together Ministers, Ambassadors, dignitaries, VIPs, and industry experts. Among the distinguished attendees were H E Fahid Mohammed Al Khayarin, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs at Qatar’s Ministry of Social Development and Family, and Abdulaziz Al Kaabi, Vice Chairman of Al-Hattab Holding.
The Minister emphasized that the exhibition offers a platform to explore the latest technologies and best practices in engineering, construction, and design. It also provides a unique opportunity to establish successful partnerships with experienced companies and advisors, thereby supporting the national economy.
This year's BYH exhibition marks a significant milestone with the inclusion of the Second Gulf Housing Week, hosted by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council. The MSDF solidified this initiative by signing an agreement with Al-Hattab Holding, underscoring a joint commitment to addressing key urbanization and housing issues crucial for the sustainable development of the GCC.
Following the opening ceremony, dignitaries conducted a VIP tour of BYH Exhibition 2024, engaging with some of the 250 exhibitors participating in this year's event.
Eng. Abdullah Abujbara, Mechanical Engineer in the Building Completion Unit at Ashghal, told The Peninsula, "Ashghal is participating in BYH 2024 to assist locals and residents in building their new homes and to inform them about our services, from design to completion. We are also raising awareness about our campaigns to ensure that all designs comply with codes and standards."
Abujbara added, "To ensure buildings endure a lifetime without issues, we are promoting awareness campaigns about preparations for the rainy season. This includes checking roof installations, surface water drainage, and weather protection for windows and doors to prevent water intrusion."
He noted that Ashghal has completed 7,833 plots with full infrastructure, including drainage, roads, utilities, and telecommunications lines.
Eng. Mariam Kafood, Head of Renewable Energy Technology at Kahramaa, discussed the launch of the Qatar National Renewable Energy Strategy (QNRES) with The Peninsula. The strategy aims to increase renewable power generation to about 4 GW by 2030 to reduce the carbon footprint.
The strategy seeks to boost the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 4 GW by 2030 and supports the implementation of distributed renewable energy generation and a net-billing mechanism, aiming to reach 200 MW by 2030. This will benefit the economy, environment, and energy security.
Bader Al Shukail, Sponsorship and International Cooperation Department Manager at the Oman Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, shared details of their showcased projects. "We are showcasing two projects: Al Jabal Al Akhdar, a high mountain destination, and Al Khuwair Muscat Downtown. We anticipate several visitors at our pavilion," he said.
Rawad Sleem, Co-Founder and General Manager of NeXTfairs for Exhibitions and Conferences, commented, "With the patronage of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the support of esteemed dignitaries, VVIPs, government entities, and the local business community, the Build Your House Exhibition has become the premier hub connecting construction, interiors, and design suppliers with citizens eager to create intelligent, sustainable homes. Embracing our leadership role in Qatar’s progress, we are committed to strengthening the construction sector and empowering Qatari housebuilders.
